Karachi Film Society is a great initiative by the most committed and accomplished members of our society. The first Pakistan International Film Festival would create great opportunities for new filmmakers to showcase their work to enthusiastic viewers and professionals. I am very proud to be a part of such dedicated team and hope that this collective effort would grow further and faster in the years to come.
PIFF 2018 can be shaped and viewed as an attempt to present, specially for the people of Karachi, a new kind of composite cinematic literature. A fine selection of local, national, regional and global films, innovative, conventional, short, long, always absorbing to demonstrate anew how cinema can uniquely celebrate universal human values and strengthen social, cultural cohesion.
Film needs to be nurtured and it needs patrons across the board if it is to flourish in Pakistan! I am excited to be a part of a venture that is going to encourage young filmmakers and provide a platform for experienced filmmakers to push the boundaries of film in our country.
In recognition of her selfless services to differently-abled persons, the government has honoured Ronak Lakhani with Sitara-e-Imtiaz, the fourth-highest decoration given to any civilian in the country based on one’s extraordinary achievement. She wishes every success to the Pakistan International Film Festival.
The Pakistan Film Festival is a wonderful initiative which will help project the soft image of Pakistan to the world and raise the stature of the Pakistan Film Industry as a whole. I am confident that it will become an annual event which will increase the interaction between local and foreign filmmakers as well.
The holding of an International Film Festival at Karachi augurs well for improving the perception of our beloved country. Such festivals, not only bring to fore the benefits of cultural exchange, but are also the source of generating positive economic activity. It is a matter of great delight that Karachi Film Society has initiated the holding of the first of such festivals, which will draw the interest of exhibitors and visitors, from various countries. Godspeed to the success of the festival.
Pakistan International Film Festival is a humble attempt by some citizens to draw attention of the global community towards the softer image of Pakistan. Natural beauty of its habitat, rich historical heritage, a vibrant multi cultural society and creativity in the fields of literature, art, drama, music, poetry and film that Pakistan offers need systematic and broader exposure. The Film Festival is part of the larger effort to expose this dimension of life to the rest of the world.
The Pakistan International Film Festival will be a major cultural event of Pakistan that will celebrate the finest in cinema. It will showcase the best in international and Pakistani cinema with screenings, discussions, events, workshops and will promote art films, experimental films, short and full- length feature films. Pakistani audiences and public will develop understanding and appreciation of films and will get an opportunity to participate in events with directors, producers, and actors.
Pakistan International Film Festival (PIFF) is an exciting addition to the art and cultural aspects of Pakistan. With the rebirth of filmmaking in Pakistan, a festival of this nature with international participation will encourage and boost our filmmakers’ fraternity and bring Pakistan on a global platform. The festival will be a great platform for positive interaction and opportunities to learn new ideas and modern filmmaking techniques. The festival has the potential to become a huge success and a great addition to the city of Karachi.’
